India face Bangladesh at Gwalior in first T20 |
“Long off…long off…long off…SURYA KUMARR YADAV”
echoes n every Indian cricket fan’s ears when think of him in.T20Is. That
indeed was the catch that held Indian fans’ breath in check and what happened later
is something whole India still cherish. The Indian T20 captain will be taking
the field tomorrow as he will be leading his side against Bangladesh in 3 match
T20I series.
Surya had a wonderful start to his captaincy
career with scoreline of 3-0 against Sri Lanka at their home soil. He will be
looking to repeat the same against Bangladesh and will look to get a winning
start in Gwalior where the first T2O will take place. On the other hand, Najmul
Shanto, the Bangladesh skipper will look to put the results of tests behind and
uplift the team in the shortest format. Surya and team management will be aware
of possible threat Bangladesh can pose in the shortest format on the given day
and will try not to be complacent. However, it will be a new challenge as Bangladesh
will miss the services of Shakib-al Hasan who recently announced his retirement
from T20I.
The venue at Gwalior will be new for both the
teams as the international game will be played after 14 years and Gwalior’s Shrimant
Madhav Rao Scindia cricket stadium is the new venue where first international
match will be played tomorrow. One thing which will not be surprising is the
new positive approach with which this Indian team is playing in every format.
Indian team management will look to give proper
chances to youngsters among which Mayank Yadav is the name creating all the
buzz. Speaking to press conference Indian skipper said that “Mayank has that ‘X’
factor. He has extra pace. We have seen his great potential in IPL. He makes an
impact on the game whenever he plays for his franchise or state. I hope he can
replicate the same impact for the Indian team. He can make a difference and is
a good addition to the team.”.
He further stressed on keeping the workload in
check of Mayank Yadav. “We have to manage him well. This is important, given
that fast bowlers play a lot – for their state, Duleep trophy and other
tournaments.” he said.
Talking about the Gwalior pitch Bangladesh batsman
Towhid Hridoy is expecting it to be “slow and low”. “We practiced for two days here.
The pitch is a bit slow and low. We got some more information on the pitch from
the ground staff too. We will try to play according to our plans.” He said. On the
contrary Surya thinks the other way. “The wicket does not appear low and slow
to us. I think it will be a good competitive T20 pitch.
When asked about playing three spinners in the
side, Surya said it’s a good competition in the team and it’s a good headache
to make such decisions. From the batting scenario, Indian skipper confirmed
that Sanju Samson will open the innings.
